Clutch Chess: Champions Showdown es un torneo rápido que reúne a cuatro competidores de élite. El campeón del mundo, Gukesh Dommaraju, se une a los tres mejores del ranking mundial en un duelo de tres días. Con sede en las renovadas instalaciones del Saint Louis Chess Club, el evento ofrece una intensa muestra del ajedrez de élite moderno.
La competición se disputa del 27 al 29 de octubre y sigue una estructura «clutch» de tres ligas a doble vuelta. El control de tiempo es de 10 minutos para la partida, más un incremento de 5 segundos por jugada. Rige una norma anti-tablas: no se permite ofrecer tablas antes de la jugada 60 de las negras, con el fin de que los jugadores luchen en cada posición.
La innovación reside en el sistema de puntuación creciente, ya que los resultados adquieren más valor a medida que avanzan las ligas.
Primera liga: 1 punto por victoria, ½ por tablas, 0 por derrota
Segunda liga: 2 puntos por victoria, 1 por tablas, 0 por derrota
Tercera liga: 3 puntos por victoria, 1 por tablas, 0 por derrota
