La mayoría de los duelos de desempate terminaron tras las primeras partidas de ajedrez rápido (25 minutos, más 10 segundos de incremento por jugador). No hizo falta ninguna partida "a todo o nada"
El jugador más joven que ha alcanzado la segunda fase eliminatoria es el indio Nihal Sarin. Nodirbek Abdusattorov quedó eliminado por axim Matlakov. El participante más mayor de edad que sigue dentro de la competición es Boris Gelfand, tras eliminar al chino Lu Shanglei (24 años).
