Circuito de Córcega 2011
El circuito comenzó en 1997, con tan solo un puñado de jugadores aficionados.
En la actualidad Córcega está celebrando la edición número XV de su torneo, en una isla que bate todos los récords en cuanto a ajedrecistas "per
cápita" (tiene 5.375 jugadores federados activos y la población de la isla es de 300.000 habitantes). A pesar del ambiente económicamente difícil, los organizadores han logrado mantener el nivel de premios (95.000 euros) y han
movilizado a un total de ¡124 patrocinadores! Participan cientos de jóvenes jugadores en este acontecimiento que este año da la bienvenida a 800 amigos ajedrecistas de cinco continentes.

Este fue el torneo más importante que hasta ahora ha brindado los siguientes resultados:

En los octavos de final fueron eliminados dos de los favoritos: Laurent Fressinet por Gabriel Battaglini y Pavel Tregubov
por Gawain Jones. Los principales favoritos, sin embargo, Vishy Anand y Shakryar Mamedyarov avanzaron, al igual que Cheparinov y el ganador del abierto, Sasikiran.
En los cuartos de final, Cheparinov tuvo una dura batalla contra Battaglini, al igual que Sasikiran contra Mamedov. Anand y Mamedyarov
pasaron sin problemas.
Y en la semifinal, las dos super estrellas derrotaron a Sasikiran y Cheparinov, respectivamente. Anand
tuvo algunos momentos apurados en la segunda partida (pero venció a "Sasi" 2-0 en los
desempates tras sus dos tablas).
Hoy lunes, el 31 de octubre, el XXXI Campeón del Mundo, Viswanathan Anand se enfrentará en la gran final con Shakhriyar Mamedyarov para la cual los jugadores se mudarán desde Bastia a Ajaccio, donde se verán las caras en el magnífico centro de congresos.
