15/02/2023 – El grupo estrella británico de música pop de sintetizador "Depeche Mode" ´(¡<3!) está preparando un nuevo álbum y acaba de publicar la canción que dará título al disco, en la que los miembros fundadores aún en vida, David Gahan y Martin Gore, se despiden de su amigo y colega Andy Fletcher, fallecido el año pasado. Las imágenes del tablero de ajedrez recuerdan a la película "El Séptimo Sello".

El grupo británico Depeche Mode se fundó en 1980 por los músicos Martin Gore (teclado, guitarra, voz), David Gahan (voz), Andy Fletcher (teclado) y Vince Clarke (teclado). Vince Clarke dejó el conjunto al cabo de un año y luego fue cofundador del grupo Erasure. Martin Gore, en particular, se encargó de componer para él. Durante un tiempo, Depeche Mode continuó como trío. Entonces Alan Wilder se hizo cargo de la parte de Vince Clarke.
Tras su álbum de debut "Speak & Spell", Depeche Mode fue considerado parte de la escena New Wave por su uso intensivo de instrumentos electrónicos. A veces se les llamaba los "Doors de la música punk".
La propia banda cita como modelos a grupos como The Velvet Underground, Kraftwerk, David Bowie, Neil Young, Roxy Music, Sparks y Siouxsie and the Banshees. Martin Gore además es fan de Elvis Presley.
A finales de los años ochenta, la banda vivía en Berlín, que entonces aún estaba dividida y atraía a muchos artistas por su especial situación. Depeche Mode también tenía muchos fans en la República Democrática de Alemania y entonces recibió una petición de la organización juvenil estatal FDJ de la RDA para dar un concierto en Berlín Este. Depeche Mode, que por aquel entonces ya iba camino de convertirse en una superbanda, aceptó y así se llegó a una única y memorable actuación en la RDA, el 7 de marzo de 1988 en el Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle, que sin embargo sólo tenía cabida para 6400 espectadores. La actuación se mantuvo en secreto durante mucho tiempo. No obstante, miles de aficionados se congregaron frente a la sala con la esperanza de conseguir una entrada.
Probablemente, los dirigentes de la RDA esperaban transmitir a la juventud de su país, de forma bien dosificada, algo del sentimiento de libertad que reinaba al otro lado del Muro. En 1990 se disolvió la RDA.
A finales de los años 1970 y principios de los 1980, se produjo una revolución musical a partir de la cual se desarrollaron una gran variedad de géneros musicales, como el techno, el house, el synth pop, el gótico, el dark wave y muchos otros. Con el tiempo, Depeche Mode creció a partir de la escena New Wave y, con innumerables éxitos, se convirtió en una de las grandes bandas de pop "mainstream" de la historia de la música de las últimas cuatro décadas. Desde entonces, Depeche Mode ha colocado más de 50 canciones en la lista de singles del Reino Unido y casi 20 álbumes en el top 10 de la lista de álbumes.
Depeche Mode también tuvo mucho éxito con sus actuaciones en vivo en todo el mundo y hasta hoy siguen llenando las arenas de música de gente hasta el último sitio. La prensa y la industria de música ha dado diversos galardones como uno de los grupos de música más populares y mejores del mundo.
El 19.05.2022 por la tarde, Depeche Mode anunció la muerte repentina de su miembro y co-fundador, el teclado Andy Fletcher.
En junio, los dos miembros fundadores restantes, Martin Gore y Dave Gahan, anunciaron la causa de la muerte de su compañero. Andy Fletcher murió de un aneurisma de aorta (Aneurysma dissecans aortae), una rotura de la aorta.
Con su canción "Ghost again" (fantasma de nuevo), que da título a un nuevo álbum, Martin Gore y Dave Gahan se despiden de Andy Fletcher y citan imágenes de la película "El séptimo sello" de Ingmar Bergman en el vídeo del tema, en el que un caballero juega al ajedrez con la muerte.
