Dubai Police Global Challenge Masters

El torneo Dubai Police Global Challenge Masters es un torneo abierto, que se disputa por sistema suizo a 9 rondas, con control de tiempo clásico. Participan un total de 135 participantes de 28 países llegaron al emirato más poblado de los EAU. Yu Yangyi, Amin Tabatabaei y Vladislav Artemiev, con una puntuación igual o superior a 2700, encabezan la clasificación. Les siguen de cerca 20 jugadores con clasificaciones entre 2600 y 2700.
Tras las primeras dos rondas, 11 jugadores comparten el primer puesto con una puntuación perfecta. Cabe destacar que sólo 2 de los 20 favoritos inciales forman parte de este grupo, entre ellos están: Aravindh Chithambaram (8º cabeza de serie, Elo 2670) y Saleh Salem (17º, 2629). Mientras tanto, los jugadores peor clasificados en este grupo son Ilamparthi A R (64º, 2440) y Jan Malek (59º, 2461).
Esta mezcla de jugadores en lo alto de la clasificación demuestra que en las dos primeras rondas se han producido varias sorpresas, ya que algunos de los cabezas de serie -Yu Yangyi, Narayanan S L y Hans Niemann, entre otros- sólo lograron un par de empates contra rivales mucho menos valorados al principio del torneo.

La Campeona del Mundo, Ju Wenjun se acercó a Dubái directamente desde Malmö, donde había participado en el torneo Sigeman & Co.
La mayor sorpresa de la primera ronda la dio el MI indio Ravi Teja, que derrotó al noveno favorito, el uzbeko Nodibek Yakubboev. El año pasado, Yakubboev ganó notoriedad al imponerse en el sólido Qatar Masters, donde superó a jugadores de la talla de Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura y Anish Giri.
Ravi, de hecho, consiguió dar jaque mate al gran maestro uzbeko.
