Nicholas Pert tiene excelentes credenciales tanto como autor, con su excelente DVD sobre la defensa Francesa, como por su puesto de entrenador jefe nacional de la Federación Inglesa de Ajedrez, lo que indica que son patentes su experiencia y éxito a la hora de ayudar a los jugadores a desarrollar su potencial.
En la introducción, explica que la obra está orientada a jugadores en la franja de Elo entre 1600 y 1900 y se basa en una investigación que realizó para identificar tendencias en los errores cometidos por los ajedrecistas de ese nivel. Naturalmente confirma que una gran cantidad corresponde a errores tácticos, pero en modo alguno se trata de los únicos errores y se abordan fallos comunes en los finales o el las valoraciones posicionales, que incluso esos jugadores no deberían cometer. Los temas se explican mediante diversos vídeos y luego se ponen a prueba por medio de preguntas.

He eliminado la lista de vídeos y tests de los demás capítulos porque era demasiado larga, pero baste decir que en total son 57 vídeos, distribuidos entre lecciones y secuencias con preguntas interactivas. Si les suena a mucho, es que lo es, pero no se preocupen, pues se asimilan muy bien. el metraje total de la obra está un poco por encima de las 4 horas, no de las 14.

Aunque ya no estoy a ese nivel de Elo, he visto con cariño todos y cada uno de los temas. De hecho, no me parece que ni los maestros estén por encima de ninguno de esos errores, sólo que los cometen con menos frecuencia y a otro nivel. ¿Errores de cálculo de líneas forzadas? Compruébelo. ¿No admitir un error? Compruébelo. ¿Sobrestimar los planes del rival? ¡Compruébelo! No obstante, eso sólo indica que los jugadores necesitan aprender esas lecciones cuanto antes, para maximizar las opciones de minimizar los errores.
