El gran maestro ruso Igor Kurnosov murió en un accidente de tráfico, según informó el jueves un periódico de ajedrez local. Kurnosov, de 28 años, y otro peatón fueron alcanzados por un coche conducido por una mujer de 20 años, según The Chess News. El accidente ocurrió en la ciudad de Chelyabinsk en los Urales del Sur (Rusia) El gran maestro falleció a las 2:45 hora local (20:45 GMT del jueves)
En el escalafón de la FIDE, Kurnosov estaba en el puesto 89 (84 entre los jugadores en activo) y era 22º en el escalafón ruso (20º contando solo los jugadores en activo) Kurnosov obtuvo el máximo título en 2003, cinco años después de comenzar a jugar torneos oficiales.
El logro más reciente de Kurnosov fue el primer puesto el el torneo abierto de Abu Dabi (Emiratos Árabes Unidos), en julio.
