Nette Robinson, cantante de jazz profesional, se ha estado haciendo su nombre como artista de ajedrez, por lo que fue un paso natural cuando Nette, con la ayuda de Purling London y Chess Strategies LLP, encajaron todas las piezas para organizar una exposición y un festival en la galería Mayfair Europa durante la última semana de junio. Purling London Ltd es una empresa especializada en el diseño, producción y comercialización de juegos de ajedrez pintados a mano individualmente por una pequeña selección de artistas británicos.

Nette estudió Bellas Artes y Música en la facultad universitaria Chichester donde siguió para explorar y desarrollar su amor por la arquitectura, el jazz, el retrato, y el modernismo. Su trabajo semiabstracto debe mucho a la inspiración y la influencia de diseñador gráfico y pintor Aaron Douglas, artista holandés De Stijl Piet Mondrian, el constructivismo ruso y el futurismo italiano. Para comenzar la semana la galería dio la bienvenida a Chess in Schools & Communities que organizó una recepción con fines caritativos en la que se programó un torneo de ajedrez relámpago a cinco rondas ganado por el GM Jonathan Parkwer con 4.5/5 puntos. Segundo fue el MI Malcolm Pein con 3.5/5.
Durante la muestra los visitantes jugaron ocasionalmente al ajedrez y también hubo dos sesiones de simultáneas a cargo de Ray Keene
La semana culminó con el primer campeonato de Londres de ajedrez a la vasca
El ajedrez a la vasca consiste en jugar simultáneamente dos partidas, una con blancas y otra con negras. Para que no resulte demasiado fácil, disponían de 7 minutos en el reloj. Las partidas se jugaron en unos tableros retroiluminados de Purling London y la acción era grabada mediante cámaras.
Luke McShane y Gavin Wall disputaron la final, de la que emergió vencedor Luke en dos partidas luchadas e igualadas
Tania Sachdev acudió al acto para apoyar a su amigo Anuradha Beniwal, que competía en el ajedrez a la vasca
La galería se convirtió en un garito de jazz después, con la banda de Nette, su marido saxofonista Tony Woods, el guitarrista Dominic Ashworth y el GM Daniel King al bajo tocaron para los invitados.
