05/04/2003 – El torneo magistral, en las dos últimas rondas, vivió un giro brusco que dio al traste con las espectativas de Vallejo y Shirov y la vistoria terminó en manos de Alexander Rustemov, por mejor coeficiente de desempate que Dreev, con el que terminó empatado a puntos. Vallejo finalizó en cuarta posición, empatado con Khalifman, que fue tercero. En el torneo II venció Roberto Cifuentes con 6 puntos y Javier Moreno, segundo, logró su tercera norma de Gran Maestro.
