Gawain Jones, consiguió su su segundo título, tras derrotar a Luke McShane en la final de los desempates, ya que ambos junto a David Howell y Craig Hanley habían terminado empatados con 7/9. Llandudno es una localidad balnearia situada en el norte de Gales, cerca de los bastiones industriales ingleses en Liverpool, Manchester y Leeds, lo que le da una gran área de captación de público. El primer premio de la prueba absoluta este año fue de 10.000 libras. 5000 libras se llevó el subcampeón y 2500 el tercero. La mujer mejor clasificada recibió 1000 libras esterlinas.
La prueba absoluta reunió a un centenar de ajedrecistas, con 13 GM y 2 WGM.
Luke McShane tuvo el mejor arranquecon 5.5 puntos en 6 rondas. En la ronda 7 entabló con Daniel Gormally y fue superado por John Emms, que derrotó a Jonathan Hawkins. Gawain Jones logró el punto completo contra Jovanka Houska y formó un duo de perseguidores con Nicholas Pert, ambos con 5,5 puntos.
En la penúltima ronda, John Emms y Luke McShane entablaron, mientras que Gawain Jones ganó el enfrentamiento contra Nick Pert.

Los 4 jugadores que terminaron empatados con 7 puntos, disputaron tandas eliminatorias. McShane eliminó a Howell 2:0 y Jones hizo lo mismo con Henley. En la final se impuso Gawain Jones por 1,5:0,5.
