Permiso para jugar en España siempre
Gukesh ganó tres torneos seguidos en España sin ceder ni una sola derrota. Su racha invicta, que inició el 12 de abril, alcanza ya las 26 partidas. El oriundo de Madrás ganó el Abierto de La Roda y el Abierto de Menorca antes de jugar en Formentera. Gracias a su excelente desempeño en estos tres torneos, el joven ascendió al número 66 del mundo tras ganar 15.6 puntos de Elo. ¡Una hazaña increíble!

El prodigioso gran maestro consiguió seis victorias y cuatro empates para hacerse con el primer puesto con 8/10 puntos. El español Jaime Santos, primer cabeza de serie, y el armenio Shant Sargsyan, tercer cabeza de serie, obtuvieron 7½ puntos para terminar en segundo y tercer lugar respectivamente.

El festival Chessable Sunway Formentera tuvo lugar del 29 de abril al 8 de mayo en Formentera, la isla más pequeña y más meridional de las Islas Pitiusas, parte de la comunidad autónoma de Islas Baleares.
El evento principal fue un abierto a 10 rondas por sistema suizo, jugado con un control de tiempo de 90 minutos para las primeras 40 jugadas más 30 minutos para el resto de la partida, con un incremento de 30 segundos desde la primera jugada. El fondo total de premios del torneo alcanzó los 14.500 euros. Los tres primeros premios fueron de 3.000, 2.000 y 1.000 euros, respectivamente.
Dos victorias cruciales
En su camino hacia la victoria, Gukesh consiguió dos victorias clave sobre una pareja de experimentados grandes maestros: José Pepe Cuenca y Krishnan Sasikiran. El joven jugó con piezas negras en ambas partidas.
36.bxc6 bxc6 hubiera sido un buen intercambio para las blancas con su peón todavía colocado en f2. Sin embargo, tras 36.f3 Cd6 37.bxc6 bxc6 la situación no es la misma. De hecho, la situación es muy desfavorable para las blancas.
La amenaza de f4 es devastadora, pues las negras tienen fuertes ideas conectadas con la maniobra Cc4-e3 — si las blancas juegan Ad2, Cxd2 Dxd2 deja al rey blanco muy desprotegido.
