La Campeona de Europa Valentina Gunina aplastó a sus contrincantes y terminó con un marcador nunca visto en esta competición: 13 puntos en 15 rondas. Gunina terminó en la primera posición de la clasificación final, con una ventaja de 2½ puntos sobre sus rivales más cercanas, Natalia Zhukova y Anna Muzychuk. Los campeonatos del mundo femeninos de ajedrez rápido y relámpago tuvieron
lugar entre el 30 de mayo y el 6 de junio en Batumi (Georgia) Las competiciones
fueron organizadas y dirigidas por la
ACP y la Federación Georgiana de Ajedrez y están aprobadas por la FIDE. Formato:
suizo a 11 rondas con 25 minutos por jugador para toda la partida y 10 segundos
de incremento para la prueba de rápidas y suizo a 15 rondas con 4 minutos
por jugador para toda la partida y 2 segundos de incremento por jugada en
la competición de ajedrez relámpago. Rigen las normas de la FIDE excepto la
impopular regla de tolerancia cero: la partida se da por perdida al jugador que
llegue al tablero después de que su bandera haya caído. La bolsa de premios ascendió a 100.000 USD, de los que la ganadora de la prueba de
rápidas se llevará 12.000 USD y la campeona de ajedrez relámpago recibirá 10.000
USD.

La actual campeona de Europa en las modalidades de ajedrez clásico y relámpago, Valentina Gunina, comenzó la primera jornada con un resultado de 8 victorias en 8 partidas. El segundo día parecía que estaba frenando un poco y empató en las primeras cuatro partidas. Pero luego esa increíble nueva estrella en el firmamento del ajedrez femenino procedió a ganar las últimas tres partidas, dejando el marcador en 13/15, con una ventaja de 2½ puntos
sobre sus rivales más cercanas, Natalia Zhukova y Anna Muzychuk. Su rendimiento fue impresionante: 2804.
La segunda clasificada fue Natalia Zhukova (Ucrania), que abraza a la cuarta, Alexandra Kosteniuk
(Rusia).
Y al fondo está la árbitro y ex campeona del mundo Nana Alexandria.
