El video n.º 131 del canal «Historias de Ajedrez» tiene como protagonista al maestro internacional argentino Benjamín Mela, quien repasa algunos de los episodios más significativos de su carrera. Nacido en 1978, Mela ha desarrollado una amplia labor como entrenador, comentarista y divulgador del ajedrez.
Durante la entrevista, Mela recuerda especialmente su etapa en España, donde consiguió las tres normas necesarias para obtener el título de maestro internacional, una por año entre 2004 y 2006. El análisis se centra en su victoria con negras frente al maestro internacional indio Konguvel Ponnuswamy, disputada en Manresa en 2004, resultado que le permitió obtener la primera de aquellas normas.
La conversación trasciende el análisis de una sola partida y aborda las características de tres grandes escuelas ajedrecísticas: la soviética, la china y la india. A partir de esta comparación, Mela recuerda a figuras fundamentales de la historia del deporte, entre ellas Mikhail Botvinnik, Viktor Korchnoi, Anatoly Karpov, Garry Kasparov y Borís Spasski.
También hay espacio para hablar del ajedrez argentino. Mela comenta las trayectorias de los grandes maestros Fernando Peralta y Alejandro Hoffman, y comparte su visión sobre jóvenes talentos de distintas generaciones: Candela Francisco, campeona mundial juvenil en 2023, y Faustino Oro, entre otros.
