19/10/2010 – El I Campeonato de Europa Gay se celebró en Torremolinos (Málaga), en el marco de la ExpoGay, que se ha celebrado en el Palacio de Congresos de la ciudad. Además, se repartieron más de 6.000 € en premios en un torneo de rápidas. Al acto de clausura asistió Juan Fernández, el alcalde de Linares, donde se celebra el "Wimbledon de Ajedrez". La fecha prevista para la cita del próximo año es el 15 de octubre. A pesar del apellido del torneo, estaba abierto a todo el mundo, con la unica condición de ser mayor de edad. I Campeonato de Europa Gay

Terminó el I Campeonato de Europa Gay en la ciudad de Torremolinos, Málaga, España, coincidiendo con la feria y exposición ExpoGays para el turismo gay patrocinado por la empresa reservasgays.com y SBR Producciones, S.L.U. con la victoria del gran Maestro Internacional Ibarra, por delante de fuertes GM como el andaluz Manuel Rivas, o el ecuatoriano Carlos Matamoros entre otros. Un torneo durísimo sobre todo con fuertes MI que están a punto de dar el salto a GM. Por ejemplo el mismo Ibarra cuyo
Elo FADA asciende a un impresionante 2621. MI como David Lariño o el peruano Cristian Cruz entre otras jóvenes promesa también participaron. Un sin fin de jugadores fuertes para tan solo 8 premios, eso sí se repartieron más de 6.000€ en media mañana lo cuál es todo un éxito económico al menos para el torneo, que quizás sea el más fuerte de la provincia de Málaga este año en cuanto a premios. El encuentro fue excelentemente arbitrado por Javier Rubio y su equipo con media hora por ronda exactamente sin ningún retraso ni incidencia.
Además el mismo organizador del evento Javier Checa, dio la fecha para el próximo año, prometiendo más espectáculo el próximo 15 de octubre de 2011 si dios quiere, cosa que es de agradecer para el deporte "minoritario" como el ajedrez.
Destacar la asistencia al acto de la presidenta de la delegación de Málaga, así como Juan Fernández,
alcalde de la ciudad de Linares, el Wimbledon del ajedrez como comenta nuestro querido Leontxo García. El
alcalde nos quiso regalar una primicia informativa sobre el próximo torneo Ciudad de Linares, todavía no se saben las fechas concretas porque están en negociación con diversas ciudades para poder dar más promoción del mejor torneo del mundo en otros países, pero sino salieran adelante las negociaciones, se disputaría el torneo integro en Linares, todo un lujo para el ajedrez
andaluz.
El torneo, a pesar de su "lema" era abierto a todo el mundo, la unica condición era ser mayor de edad.
