Cuando le preguntaron por qué juega al ajedrez, el gran maestro Peter Svidler respondió en una ocasión: «En mi opinión, las cosas del mundo tienden a buscar convertirse en música. Y el ajedrez está muy cerca de lograrlo».
Es una sensación que Jason Kouchak podría compartir, sin duda. Mientras Svidler, en su camino hacia la maestría ajedrecística, ha conservado su amor por la música, Kouchak alcanzó la maestría en la música, pero siempre se sintió atraído por el ajedrez y combinó ambas pasiones siempre que pudo.

El 7 y 8 de febrero, Londres, ciudad natal de Kouchak, acogió la final del Speed Chess Championship de chess.com. La serie se disputa en línea. Para la final, los cuatro mejores jugadores se reúnen para jugar las semifinales y finales en persona, aunque compiten frente a pantallas de todas maneras.

En las últimas décadas, el ajedrez ha pasado de ser un pasatiempo de salón a convertirse en un espectáculo moderno, además de convertirse en un tema atractivo para los medios audiovisuales. Con la miniserie Gambito de dama, Netflix logró un gran éxito. Recientemente, la misma compañía lanzó un documental sobre Judit Polgar, La reina del ajedrez.
La mejor jugadora de todos los tiempos se ha retirado del ajedrez competitivo, actúa como embajadora del juego-ciencia y organiza cada año un gran festival en Budapest. En la edición de 2018, nombró al músico Jason Kouchak a la artista Yoko Ono como «Embajadores de buena voluntad» del ajedrez.

Kouchak siempre ha admirado la creatividad de Ono, y en especial este juego de ajedrez:
Se trata de un concepto abstracto que me resulta atractivo, en el que los jugadores olvidan con el tiempo la ubicación de las piezas, pero siguen moviéndolas de forma instintiva. Al eliminar los contrastes de color, los jugadores se ven impulsados hacia la colaboración y la confianza mutua, lo que fomenta la comunicación y la cooperación en lugar del conflicto. Pretende ser una metáfora de la inutilidad de la guerra.
El deseo de paz también se refleja en la composición de John Lennon «Imagine». La canción se escribió hace 55 años, pero hoy resulta más relevante que nunca.
