Ivan Sokolov ganó en Hoogeveen

24/10/2004 – Con 4,5 puntos en seis rondas, Ivan Sokolov ganó el grupo Corona del Torneo Essent de Hoogeveen. Los cuatro participantes (Sokolov, Short, Stellwagen y Magnus Carlsen) se distinguieron por un gran espíritu de lucha. Las primeras tablas se produjeron en la ronda quinta y no se dieron casos de tablas cortas. Organizadores, espectadores y, por supuesto, los jugadores pueden sentirse contentos con este torneo. El torneo abierto lo ganó Mikhail Gurevich con 7/9, por mejor desempate que Pengxiang Zhong.
