Los GMs Ivan Sokolov (en la foto de superior) y Alex Shabalov (en la de abajo) se clasificaron en la cima de la sección abierta. Ambos jugadores sumaron 7/9 puntos (tras acordar unas tablas rápidas en la última ronda para asegurarse la victoria compartida). Ambos jugadores

Se disputó un duelo de desempate a todo o nada entre ambos grandes maestros en el cual finalmente se impuso Sokolov.
