23/11/2018 – Hoy se disputó el duelo de desempate del Campeonato del Mundo Femenino 2018 entre la defensora del título Ju Wenjun y Kateryna Lagno. Ambas jugadoras se habían clasificado a lo largo de un torneo por sistema eliminatorio que había comenzado con 64 participantes. En la final, el marcador entre las últimas dos jugadoras había quedado empatado 2:2. Tras una victoria por parte de cada una de ellas. Campeonato del Mundo Femenino 2018
Del 3 al 23 de noviembre en Khanty-Mansiysk
La competición se disputó en forma de un torneo eliminatorio con inicialmente 64 jugadoras, proveniendo de 28 países. La bolsa de premios ascendió a 450.000 dólares estadounidenses. El lugar del encuentro fue la academia de ajedrez de Ugra, "Ugra Chess Academy".
La mejor jugadora de ajedrez femenina del mundo sin duda es la china Hou Yifan. Encabeza el escalafón FIDE de las mejores jugadoras femeninas del mundo con mucha diferencia. En 2011 defendió el título de Campeona del Mundo Femenina contra Humpy Koneru. En el torneo por sistema eliminatorio en 2012 quedó eliminada en una fase temprana de la competición. En 2013 reconquistó la corona en un duelo contra Anna Ushenina. En el mundial por sistema eliminatorio en 2014 que finalmente solo se disputó en 2015, no participó. En 2016 venció a la retadora, Mariya Muzychuk, y volvió a ser Campeona del Mundo. Ahora la basta a Hou con el sistema del Campeonato del Mundo por sistema eliminatorio y se ha retirado mundo del ajedrez puramente femenino.
