20/09/2001 – El estándar PGN permite registrar partidas en formato ASCII. Los ficheros PGN pueden editarse y modificarse con cualquier editor de texto sencillo. Sin embargo la normalización PGN tiene importantes restricciones en cuanto al tipo de información que puede almacenar sobre la partida (Comentarios, gráficos, variantes, multimedia, datos de cabecera...) y sus bases de datos ocupan mucho más espacio que las CBH. Por eso, cuando se traslade una partida desde una base de datos CBH a una PGN (lo que implica su conversión de formato) debe tenerse en cuenta que puede perderse parte de la información.
