06/01/2002 – UCI son las siglas de Universal Chess Interface y es un nuevo concepto de diseño desarrollado por Stefan Meyer-Kahlen. La interfaz es muy parecida a la normalización Winboard pero ofrece algunas mejoras: los módulos UCI son detectados e instalados automáticamente por Shredder; pueden configurarse por medio de cuadros de diálogo normalizados, sin necesidad de elementos de configuración externos. Por supuesto, todos los módulos UCI tienen acceso a todas las funciones de la interfaz de Shredder.
