La primera parte trata de las directrices generales, como activación del rey, las torres por detrás de los peones pasados, no apresurarse. Además de esos principios, que son específicos de los finales, hay también reglas empíricas para hacer los cambios correctamente, profilaxis o mejorar la posición de la pieza peor situada, que ya deberían tenerse en cuenta en el mediojuego.
La segunda parte se ordena por material, desde los finales de peones hasta los de torre y pieza menor contra torre y pieza menor. De nuevo Karsten Müller afinará el sexto sentido del espectador para descubrir cuando hay excepciones a la regla general.
