20/12/2001 – Leontxo García en su artículo de El País nos cuenta que los organizadores del torneo de Linares se han dirigido a Ruslan Ponomariov para que dispute la próxima edición, que tendrá lugar entre el 22 de febrero y el 10 de marzo. Su rival en la final del Campeonato del Mundo FIDE y compatriota, Vasili Ivanchuk, ya está contratado y formará junto a Kasparov, Anand, Shirov, Adams y Vallejo. Si el joven ucraniano les da calabazas, parece que se intentaría que su sitio fuese ocupado por Topalov.
