04/03/2002 – Garry Kasparov estuvo arrastrando a Vallejo hasta que logró llevarse el punto a casa, en la octava ronda. En la partida Anand - Shirov el último incendió el tablero con su marca de la casa, pero fue el mismo el que sucumbió a las llamas. Ivanchuk logró una tablas contra Ponomariov. En la general, Kasparov ha estirado el pelotón y Anand recuperó posiciones, pues comparte ahora el segundo lugar con los ucranianos. Hoy: Vallejo – Anand, Shirov – Ivanchuk, Ponomariov – Adams.
