18/08/2005 – Ayer se disputó la segunda ronda del Magistral Ciutat d'Igualada 2005. La partida disputada en el tablero número uno, Luke McShane vs. Andrei Volokitin terminó en tablas después de poco más de cuatro horas. Había comenzado con una apertura Trompowsky, en la cual Volokitin introdujo una novedad teórica en la jugada número 15 con Cb4. En la otra partida "Viktor el terrible" Kortchnoi ganó con las piezas blancas a Alexander Beliavsky en treinta y tres movimientos después de que el dos veces subcampeón del mundo entregase el peón de la columna a por iniciativa.
