Airthings Masters 2022

El torneo Airthings Masters va a ser el pistoletazo de salida para el Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2022. Participarán Magnus Carlsen y sus colegas de la elite mundial de ajedrez masculina y femenina. En total participarán 16 ajedrecistas durante la fase previa por sistema de liga de los cuales ocho se clasificarán para la fase final por sistema eliminatorio.

Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2022
La serie de torneos del Meltwater Chess Champions Tour se compromete a 9 torneos durante el año 2022. El primero será el Airthings Masters que comenzará el próximo día 19 de febrero. El último torneo de la serie será el Aimchess US Rapid, que comenzará el 28 de agosto. La serie concluirá con la gran final que se disputará entre el 11 y el 20 de noviembre de 2022.
Las fechas de los torneos se han coordinado con los datos de los torneos FIDE para que no haya choques y para que nuevamente pueda competir la flor y nata mundial del ajedrez.

La primera temporada del Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, disputada entre noviembre de 2020 y octubre de 2021 contó con 10 torneos y que han tenido una acogida fantástica. Los espectadores han mirado las partidas durante unas 30 millones de horas, al contar todo junto.
Todos los torneos se disputan por el mismo sistema. Primero hay una fase clasificatoria por sistema de liga. A continuación se disputa un torneo por sistema eliminatorio con los ocho mejores jugadores. Los puntos se dan en función del puesto que vaya ocupando cada jugador. Los mejores jugadores se clasifican para la final.
En la temporada 2020/2021, Magnus Carlsen ha ganado tres de los torneos regulares y también la gran final. Otros ganadores de torneos sueltos fueron: Wesley So (3 torneos), Teimour Radjabov, Anish Giri y Levon Aronian. En total han participado 41 jugadores en la temporada 2020/2021.
