La ceremonia inaugural se llevó a cabo en el pabellón de ajedrez construido especialmente para el torneo en los jardines de Las Tullerías (Museo del Louvre)

Vladimir Kramnik y Viswanathan Anand en la rueda de prensa. Estaban presentes también Anatoly Karpov (izda.), el patrocinador principal del torneo Andrei Filatov (segundo por la izda.) e Ilya Levitov (en el centro), presidente de la Federación Rusa de Ajedrez.
