11/12/2003 – El XVI Torneo de Ajedrez Carlos Torre Repetto se presenta, en palabras de sus organizadores, como el mejor de su historia. Se desarrollará entre el 12 y el 20 de diciembre en Mérida (Yucatán, México), con 25 grandes maestros (incluidas dos mujeres), 11 maestros internacionales (10 varones) y 6 maestros FIDE. Los cuatro con el ranking más alto son el ruso Alexey Dreev (2.705), el israelí Boris Gelfand (2.703), el rumano Liviu Dieter Nisipeanu (2.675) y el ruso Valerij Filippov (2.630). Los premios serán similares a los del año pasado (superan los $400.000) y se repartirán en las dos etapas de que consta el certamen: torneo suizo clasificatorio y sistema KO. A la página web oficial.
