14/06/2012 – La quinta ronda del Memorial Tal resultó explosiva. Tras la partida táctica contra Grischuk en la cuarta ronda, Carlsen demostró sus habilidades técnicas en la quinta, contra Radjabov. Magnus logró igualar con negras en una Escocesa y fue presionando cada vez más. Radjabov consumió mucho tiempo, pero no encontró forma de defenderse bien. La otra partida victoriosa del día corrió a cargo de Morozevich, también con negras. Cuando Aronian se vio en apuros de tiempo, "Moro" golpeó, venció y ha tomado el liderato en solitario con 4 puntos. Las tres partidas restantes concluyeron en tablas, pero fueron muy interesantes. Kramnik tomó la iniciativa con negras contra Nakamura después de la apertura, aunque no consiguió imponerse. Tomashevsky y McShane jugaron una partida original y entretenida que desembocó en jaque continuo. Aún fue más entretenido el duelo de Caruana, que invitó a Grischuk a demostrar sus capacidades defensivas, tras un sacrificio de la torre. Grischuk se defendió bien y la partida terminó en empate. VII Memorial Tal 2012
Del 8 al 19 de junio de 2012, en Moscú
Entre el 8 y el 19 de junio de 2012 se disputa Memorial Tal 2012, en la Casa Pashkov (Vozdvizhenka 3/5, p.1) en Moscú
(Rusia) Los días de descanso son el 11 y el 15 de junio. La competición es por sistema de liga,
con 9 rondas y un control de tiempo de 100 minutos para los primeros 40 movimientos, seguido por 50 minutos para los siguientes 20 movimientos y finalmente 15 minutos para el resto de la partida. El incremento por
jugada es de 30 segundos desde el comienzo. Las rondas empiezan a las
15:00 hora de Moscú, es decir, a las 13:00 CEST (Madrid/París/Berlín). La última ronda comienza a las
13:00 h. No se permite ofrecer tablas antes del primer control de tiempo. Los participantes comentarán sus partidas en la sala de prensa tras cada ronda. La bolsa de premios asciende a 100.000 euros.

El armenio preparó una barricada pero luego Morozevich descorchó un sacrificio de peón tremendo que convirtió la partida en un caos. Con cuatro peones por una pieza, Aronian teóricamente tenía compensación suficiente, pero en el movimiento 27 le quedaba menos de un minuto en el reloj, no consiguió resolver sus problemas y de repente estuvo muerto. Con esa victoria, Morozevich se ha colocado en la primera posición con 4/6 y un rendimiento de más de 3000 puntos Elo.
