La historia de Tani y su familia
Tani Adewumi no sabía ni lo que era "Boko Haram", ni tampoco comprendía por qué los terroristas habían amenazando a su familia. Lo único que sí sabía era, que cuando sus padres le decían que la familia se iba a mudar a los Estados Unidos de América, aquello le parecía una gran aventura más que una huida. La verdad es que la familia vivió unos cuantos milagros en su viaje y todavía más cuando se habían instalado en Nueva York.
El padre de Tani, Kayode, empezó a trabajar como lavavajillas y chófer para Uber, mientras que la madre de Tani, Oluwatoyin, trabajaba como limpiadora y la familia vivía en un refugio de indigentes.
Tani, de ocho años, afrontó la nueva vida con coraje y persevancia. Además, resultó que tenía un talento innato para el ajedrez. Tani se apuntó a las clases de ajedrez del club de su colegio y por las tardes practicaba "en casa", en el refugio. Un año más tarde, Tani ganó el Campeonato de Ajedrez de Nueva York.
