24/01/2007 – Ayer comenzó el torneo Gibtelecom Masters 2007, a disputar entre el 23 de enero y el 1 de febrero. Participan unos 150 jugadores, entre ellos también muchos grandes maestros, como Michael Adams, Vadim Milov, Kiril Georgiev, Ivan Sokolov, Hikaru Nakamura, Alexander Areshchenko, Mikhail Gurevich, Viktor Korchnoi, Emil Sutovsky, Zahar Efimenko, etc. En la primera ronda hubo dos triunfos femeninos inesperados: Irina Krush se impuso al que fuera subcampeón mundial Vladimir Akopian y Ketevan Arakhamia derrotó a Hikaru Nakamura en una partida de 100 movimientos.
