«Se!ze», un juego inspirado en el ajedrez
Hikaru Nakamura se enfrentará al piloto de Fórmula 1 de Ferrari Charles Leclerc en un inusual duelo de estrategia en Italia el martes 1 de septiembre, antes del Gran Premio de Italia en Monza. En lugar de enfrentarse sobre un tablero de ajedrez convencional, ambos competirán en Se!ze, un nuevo juego inspirado en el ajedrez y desarrollado por Leclerc en colaboración con Chivas Regal.
El encuentro formará parte del «Chivas Regal Arena of Mastery», un evento público en el que está previsto presentar el juego. El nombre Se!ze proviene de la palabra francesa para 16, el número que usa Leclerc en la Fórmula 1. El juego surgió de un proyecto que comenzó hace aproximadamente un año. El piloto de Ferrari, aficionado al ajedrez desde hace tiempo, participó en el desarrollo del concepto y en las pruebas de sus sucesivas versiones.
Para Nakamura, el desafío supone una prueba algo distinta de sus actividades habituales en la élite del ajedrez. El gran maestro estadounidense ya ha dedicado tiempo a estudiar Se!ze e incluso ha creado una versión en línea para disputar partidas de práctica. Su preparación ha incluido el análisis de la fase inicial del juego y la búsqueda de estrategias básicas.
Según Nakamura, la mecánica simplificada del juego podría hacerlo accesible para personas sin experiencia previa en ajedrez y servir potencialmente como introducción a otros juegos de estrategia.
La participación de Nakamura va más allá del duelo del martes: está previsto que asista al Gran Premio de Italia. No será su primera carrera de Fórmula 1, pues ya acudió al Gran Premio de Miami hace unos años. Su presencia en Monza representa otro punto de encuentro entre el ajedrez profesional y la Fórmula 1.
Leclerc, por su parte, ha hecho cada vez más visible su interés por el ajedrez en los últimos años. En enero de 2022 participó en un desafío de ajedrez rápido contra su entonces compañero en Ferrari, Carlos Sainz. Más recientemente, poco antes del Gran Premio de Azerbaiyán de 2025 en Bakú, Leclerc y su actual compañero Lewis Hamilton se reunieron con el GM azerbaiyano Teimour Radjabov. Radjabov observó una partida entre los dos pilotos de Ferrari y les ofreció consejos antes de que Leclerc y Hamilton unieran fuerzas para enfrentarse al ganador de la Copa del Mundo de 2019.
Leclerc y Nakamura también se han enfrentado previamente sobre el tablero. Leclerc recordó que en una ocasión jugó contra el estadounidense en una exhibición simultánea a 20 tableros, en la que Nakamura lo derrotó con comodidad.

16/03/2026 – Hikaru Nakamura fue derrotado por Awonder Liang en un match de entrenamiento jugado en Saint Louis, celebrado como preparación para el Torneo de Candidatos. Tras dos partidas clásicas que terminaron en tablas, los ocho enfrentamientos de las sesiones de rápidas y blitz tuvieron ganador. Liang se impuso por un marcador de 6-4. 11/09/2025 – Hikaru Nakamura está trabajando para cumplir con el requisito de jugar suficientes partidas clásicas en 2025 y así poder clasificarse por rating al Torneo de Candidatos de 2026. El número dos del mundo participó recientemente en dos torneos estatales en Estados Unidos y logró puntajes perfectos en ambos. Ganó las siete partidas del Campeonato Estatal de Luisiana en Nueva Orleans y luego sumó cinco victorias más en el Abierto de Iowa. This entry into the 60 minutes series concentrates on the Modern variation of the Italian game where White opens the centre early : 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Bc4 Nf6 4 d4 exd4 5 e5!. This line can be reached by various move orders, most frequently from the Scotch 3 d4 exd4 4 Bc4. It's a sharp variation and Grandmasters such as Evgeny Sveshnikov have used it frequently,with very good results. It's a perfect line for club players to adopt which is relatively easy to learn and which contains many traps. All the main responses are covered here, including 5...d5, 5...Ng4 and 5...Ne4 and the conclusion is that is is difficult for Black to equalize in a straightforward way. Problems are being posed, which over the board might prove tough to solve.
