29/05/2002 – En lo que se refiere al Grand Prix de la FIDE que comienza el 1 de junio. Los jugadores con la puntuación más alta son Kasparov y Ponomariov. Es destacable la falta de grandes maestros de primerísima línea como Kramnik, Anand, Topalov y Leko. 21 de los 30 participantes proceden de antiguas repúblicas rusas, 2 son franceses, 1 de India y 1 de Irán.
