16/08/2004 – El proyecto Hydra - FPGA de Chrilly Donninger y el varias veces campeón del mundo Shredder de Stefan Meyer-Kahlen están jugando un encuentro a ocho partidas en Abu Dhabi, dentro del XIV Festival de Ajedrez. Hydra se ha impuesto en las dos primeras partidas. El proyecto Hydra está financiado por el Pal Group of companies y cuenta  con los grandes maestros Christopher Lutz y Talib Mousa como asesores ajedrecísticos. En el aspecto técnico la máquina se estructura en un cluster Linux con 16 tarjetas FPGA Vertex I. Shredder corre en un Transtec Quad-Opteron con 2 Ghz cada uno. Las partidas se retransmiten diariamente en directo a las 16:00 CET (= GMT +2) en Jugarajedrez.com.
