26/08/2020 – En los Estados Unidos de América se estrenará una nueva película de ajedrez dentro de poco. El título es "Critical Thinking" (Pensamiento crítico). Basada en hechos reales, la película cuenta la historia del equipo escolar de ajedrez del Miami Jackson Senior High School. Sin más apoyo, pero gracias al fantástico respaldado de un profesor muy comprometido, el equipo participa con éxito en los Campeonatos Escolares. Director: John Leguizamo.

Critical Thinking - Pensamiento crítico
John Leguizamo nació en Bogotá, Colombia, en 1964 y se mudó a Nueva York con su familia en 1969. Estudió estudios de teatro y se conocido en los Estados Unidos con un programa de comedia. Al ser emigrante latino, Leguizamo no lo ha tenido nada fácil pero gracias a su talento y su persistencia llegó a ser exitoso.

Leguizamo fue galardonado con dos premios Tony Award por sus representaciones teatrales. Ganó algo de prominencia en la vida cultural estadounidense y finalmente fue contratado para papeles cinematográficos en Hollywood.
Ha tenido papeles en Miami Vice, The Damned of War, Die Hard 2, Super Mario Bros., en la adaptación cinematográfica de Baz Luhrmann de Romeo y Julieta, en la adaptación cinematográfica de El amor en los tiempos del cólera en las películas de acción de la serie John Wick, etc. Para las películas de Ice Age prestó su voz al perezoso Sid.
Ahora John Leguizamo también ha probado suerte como director de película. En su dibuto, el ajedrez juega un papel importante.
El colegio y el equipo prácticamente no reciben apoyo económico pero el equipo quiere participar en los Campeonatos Escolares de la ciudad no obstante. Compiten con la gran esperanza de quizá poder clasificarse para el Campeonato Escolar Nacional de EE. UU.
Los alumnos en gran parte viven en circunstancias socialmente complicados, pero su profesor, Mario Martinez (cuyo papel ocupa el propio John Leguizamo), les ayuda con mucho fervor y dedicación y consigue motivarlos.
Eso sí, en el camino hacia el éxito el equipo tiene que romper con diversas convenciones.

El argumento de la película se basa en hechos reales e históricamente se situa en el año 1998. Los héroes de la historia auténtica han aconsejado a los productores de la película.
