"How to deal with draw offers"

Al principio de su vídeo, Jan Markos se queja de que en el ajedrez hay demasiadas tablas tempranas y lo achaca a dos razones: la pereza y el miedo. Por supuesto, cada jugador debería tratar de atajar la primera por sí mismo. Pero, ¿el miedo? Markos aborda esta segunda causa en su vídeo, dando un ejemplo de su propia propia práctica de juego en los torneos. En esta posición:
su rival, el GM Gergely Antal, le sorprendió con el avance 17.e5. Posteriormente, Markos encontró la mejor continuación 17... dxe5 18. g4 Axg4 19.hxg4 Qxg4+. Pero el hecho de que hubiera pasado por alto completamente la jugada 17 de su rival le inquietó tanto emocionalmente, que tras 20.Rf1 aceptó las tablas repitiendo la posición tras 20...Dh3+ 21.Rg1 Dg4+ etc.
Si hubiera sido capaz de mirar la posición objetivamente y evaluarla con la cabeza enfriada, habría sido mejor continuar con 20...Tab8 21.De3 Tfd8 tras 20.Rf1, porque las negras simplemente no tienen nada que temer en esta posición.
Por tanto, el primer consejo general de Markos es: tómate tu tiempo cuando sientas incertidumbre o miedo para volver a un estado emocional estable. Y luego vuelve a en el tablero.

After 1.c4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.Nf3 e4 Black is giving up a pawn. By sacrificing the e-pawn, Black gains a lot of time harassing the white knight and seizes the initiative in the centre.
