No sólo todos los jugadores pertenecen a la categoría sub-16 (nacidos en 2007) o son más jóvenes, sino que todos los equipos son mixtos, con al menos un chico y una chica por equipo.
En la práctica, esto significa que muchos equipos están formados por 3 chicos y 1 chica. El país anfitrión, Holanda, participa con 4 equipos, mientras que muchos otros países tienen 1 o más equipos. La primera ronda se ha jugado hoy, 13 de agosto. Los días siguientes habrá 1 ó 2 partidos por día, hasta llegar a la 9ª ronda final, el viernes 18 de agosto.

La Olimpiada Juvenil en la categoría sub-16 dio comienzo ayer domingo 13 de agosto, pero el jueves 10 de agosto comenzó un torneo de todos contra todos con diez jugadoras. El así llamado "Open World Dutch Women TOP 10 Championship 2023" -sí, es un buen trabalenguas- es un acontecimiento que se disputa en paralelo o incluso "corona" junto a la Olimpiada Juvenil.
En la primera jornada, el equipo Kazajistán 1 tuvo un duelo importante con Australia 1. Las partidas en los tres primeros tableros concluyeron en tablas y únicamente la partida entre WCM Cheng (Australia) y MIF Nurmanova (Kazajistán terminó a favor de la favorita.
El segundo equipo de la lista inicial de favoritos, China, tuvo menos problemas contra el 4º equipo de Holanda. En los tableros uno a tres hubo unas intensas luchas en las que la ventaja se inclinó a menudo hacia China, respectivamente. Sascha Kurt salvó el honor para el equipo holandés al empatar con su oponente.

Los demás equipos neerlandeses cosecharon éxitos. El equipo 4 perdió contra China. Los equipos 2 y 3 ganaron. El equipo 2, formado por Kobe Smeets, Roger Labruyere, Rhys Arnold e Isafara Gergin, se enfrentó al equipo 2 de Tailandia. El resultado fue 3-1, con la desafortunada derrota de Isafara ante un rival que jugó con extrema precisión. Las demás partidas no fueron nada fáciles, pero la determinación y la agudeza estuvieron del lado holandés. El equipo 3, con Noah Ritzerveld, Wouter Terlouw, Oscar Zecha y Fleur Westerhof, demostró ser demasiado para Uganda 3. Un equipo bastante joven, con Fleur Westerhof, 2009 como la jugadora "más veterana" del equipo.
