19/10/2003 – Con su victoria en la última ronda frente a Aronian, Judit Polgar se adjudicó el torneo de Essent en Hoogeveen. Logró 4 puntos en 6 partidas, con un rendimiento Elo por encima de 2800. Segundo fue Ivan Sokolov, el único que se hizo encajar una derrota a la magiar. Karpov terminó en cuarto y último lugar, sin lograr anotarse ninguna victoria y recibiendo dos ceros.
