Los participantes serán seleccionados y emparejados en función de sus valoraciones FIDE de ajedrez rápido. Debido al hecho de que el torneo Clutch Chess se disputa por sistema eliminatorio, aquel jugador que pierda su respectivo duelo, será eliminado de la competición, mientras que los ganadores avanzarán a la próxima fase del torneo, respectivamente.
En los cuartos de final, cada duelo consiste en 12 partidas con un ritmo de juego de 10 minutos partida, más 5 segundos de incremento a partir del primer movimiento.
Sistema de puntuación
Partidas 1-4: victoria = 1 puntos, empate = ½ puntos
Partidas 5-6: victoria = 2 puntos, empate = 1 punto
Partidas 7-10: victoria = 1 punto, empate = ½ puntos
Partidas 11-12: victoria = 3 puntos, empate = 1½ puntos
Cada duelo se disputará en dos jornadas consecutivos. Es decir, se disputarán 6 partidas el primer día del duelo y los otros 6 al día siguiente.
