08/07/2003 – Hace casi un mes, durante la celebración del IV Campeonato de Europa en Estambul, 187 participantes hicieron pública una carta de protesta, amenazando con boicotear el siguiente acontecimiento. El mismo día, el presidente de la Federación Turca de Ajedrez respondió a la misiva. Ahora los jugadores retoman las reclamaciones con un grupo impulsor de una asociación o sindicato de jugadores de ajedrez formado por Bologan, Fridman, Glek, Kharlov, Krasenkov, Lautier, Pelletier, Skripchenko y Tregubov.
