Programa y control de tiempo
El torneo Tata Steel Chess cuenta con dos torneos principales, Masters y Challengers. Ambas competiciones se disputan por sistema de liga, es decir todos se enfrentan con todos. En ambos grupos participarán 14 jugadores. La primera ronda de ambas competiciones se disputará el 16 de enero de 2016. Todas las rondas en Wijk aan Zee comenzarán a las 13:30 CET, excepto por la última, el día 31 de enero, que arrancará a las 12:00 CET. Las rondas del grupo Masters fuera de Wijk aan Zee (en Ámsterdam y Utrecht) comenzarán a las 14:00 CET.
El ritmo de juego será de 100 minutos para los primeros 40 movimientos, seguido por 50 minutos para los siguientes 20 movimientos. A continuación quedarán 15 minutos, más 30 segundos de incremento por movimiento para el resto de la partida.
* Todas las rondas comenzarán an las 13:30 CET, excepto la última que arrancará a las 12:00 CET.
