Una pequeña sorpresa, aunque a estas alturas, habiendo jugado contra Carlsen tantas veces, menudo, es realmente difícil darle una sorpresa con una variante secundaria.

El sacrificio del peón es el quid de la cuestión del sistema Dc2.

Para sorprender a Carlsen, tuve que sorprenderme a mí mismo. Normalmente optaría por una variante mucho más segura 11.Da4, que casi por fuerza conduce a simplificaciones masivas.
11...C6 12.e4 d6!? 13.e5 Dd7
La razón por 13...d6!? es que las negras resuelven el problema del caballo en f6, que está amenazado, mediante una maniobra táctica.
14.Dxd7+ No recordaba 14.Cc2, que sobre el tablero parecía una opción mucho más fascinante.
14...Cxd7 15.exd6 Af6 16.Te1+! Una inclusión importante. El peón d6 de las blancas no es la baza principal aquí, sino más bien el hecho de que la torre h8 no está involucrada en el juego, de momento.
16...Rf8 17.Cc3 Cb4 Me preocupaba mucho más la opción compleja, más estratégica con Axc3!?, arruinando la estructura de peones mía en el flanco de la dama.
18.Ce5!?
Desviándome sin saberlo de Carlsen-Pelletier 2008. Sentía que era una excelente decisión práctica y estaba seguro de que ahora las blancas se podrían mover libremente, gracias a la pareja de alfiles y a la flexible estructura de peones en el flanco de dama.
18...Cxe5 19.Axb7 Td8 20.Td1 Las negras tienen que trabajar para alzarse con mi peón débil d y, mientras tanto, las blancas tratarían de avanzar con b4 a alguna parte y conseguir así una compensación más que suficiente. Esa era más o menos la idea general que tenía de aquello y funcionó a la perfección en la partida.
20...Cc4 21.d7! Cc2 La alternativa sería 21...Re7!? lo cual en su momento había conducido hacia unas tablas en una partida de ajedrez postal en 2016.
22.Tb1 Cd4? 22...Ce5! Las negras deberían mantener el caballo en la casilla c2 de momento, para prevenir el avance de b4.
23.b4! Txd7? 23...Ce5! Las negras tienen que capturar el peón de d7 con el caballo, para procurar respaldar al peón en c5.
24.Ad5! Cd6 25.bxc5 bxc5 26.Aa3 Re7
27.Axc5?! La manera más limpia de hacerlo. 27.Te1+! Rd8 28.Axc5. La torre de h8 todavía no puede entrar en juego, las blancas ya han recuperado material y los poderosos alfiles tienen mucho genio.
27...Ce6! 28.Ab4 a5? DDesesperación, pasando por alto también mi fuerte movimiento número 30.
29.Axa5 Tc8 30.Ca4!
Se está avecinando Cb6 y Ab4, clavando el caballo de nuevo lo cual supone otro problema.
30...Cc4 31.Tbc1 Ae5 Aquí por poco hubiese cometido un error, 32.Rg2?? Ce3+! lo cual lo estropearía todo.
32.Ab4+ Rf6 33.Cc5! Cxc5 34.Txc4 Tdc7 35.Aa5!
Tras 35...Td7 36.Ab6! las negras perderán material, debido a la clavada en la columna c. Así que Carlsen se rindió.
