Torres Quevedo y sus autómatas

22/07/2004 – A veces erróneamente se piensa que la primera máquina capaz de calcular y ejecutar movimientos de ajedrez no hizo su aparición hasta la era de la electrónica digital. Sin embargo un ingenio mecánico construido a principios del siglo XX por el ingeniero español Leonardo Torre Quevedo, era capaz de dar mate con rey y torre contra rey. Posterioremente construyó otro autómata, aunque algunas fuentes lo atribuyen a su hijo. Ramón Jiménez ha escrito un reportaje en inglés.
