Anton Korobov desde el comienzo. Es sabido que la Eslava de Korobov es pasiva
pero sólida. No obstante Kramnik encontró el talón de Aquiles y se abalanzó
sobre la oportunidad.

Dmitri Andreikin intentó un
sistema poco convencional con d4 contra Peter Svidler (izquierda), pero el
resultado fue peor que óptimo. Las negras no juzgaron que su ventaja fuese
suficiente para ir a por el punto entero y aceptaron las tablas.
Evgeny Tomashevsky (derecha) y
Gata Kamsky parece que se tomaron un descanso de sus partidas salvajes de la
eliminatoria anterior. Acordaron tablas en una Eslava con a6 después de que
Tomashevsky no sacase nada de la apertura.
Maxime Vachier-Lagraeve
(derecha) fue capaz de lograr cierta presión sobre la Günfeld de Caruana. Las
blancas obtuvieron un peón de ventaja y marchaban por delante en el reloj, pero
el italiano mantuvo la cabeza fría y fue encontrando recursos para salir
adelante. Luego se volvieron las tornas y fue el francés quien tuvo que tener
cuidado con la actividad de las piezas negras.
