Aunque es un niño prodigio del ajedrez, claramente era el patito feo en su encuentro frente al ucranio de 13 años y gran maestro Sergey Karjakin, que es el más joven gran maestro de todos los tiempos y asistente de su compatriota y campeón del mundo FIDE, Ruslan Ponomariov.
