19/03/2012 – El gran maestro israelí Boris Gelfand está muy ocupado con los preparativos de su duelo por el título mundial contra el campeón actual Vishy Anand, que tendrá lugar en mayo. Aún así ha reservado tiempo para apoyar la vida ajedrecistica en su ciudad, Rishon-Lezion (Israel) También los políticos están muy convencidos: "Vemos la gran importancia que tiene el aprendizaje del ajedrez en las escuelas primarias. Además de pasarárselo bien y estar jugando, los niños realizan un proceso de pensamiento en dimensiones más altas y eso conduce a obtener la capacidad de pensar de manera estratégia; se sienten motivados a aprender; hay mejor colaboración entre los niños; desarrollan la habilidad del autocontrol emocional cuando ganan o pierden y aprenden a valorar y respetar a los demás. El valor añadido del ajedrez es muy grande, con lo cual nos parece un compromiso importante invertir más en este campo". Viaje al Mundo del Ajedrez en Rishon Lezion

La ciudad de Rishon Lezion tiene unos 230.000 habitantes y es un importante centro de ajedrez en Israel y es sede del club más antiguo y con más tradición de Israel. El departamento de ajedrez juvenil del club ha "criado" muchos campeones nacionales e internacionales. El equipo de veteranos del club ganó la medalla de bronce en la Premier Leage con los grandes maestros Boris Alterman, Yona Kosashvili, Eran Liss y Tal Baron, junto a los maestros internacionales Alex Kaspi, Michael Klenburg. Gil Popilski, Israel Caspi y… ¡Sofia Polgar!

En todo caso, el ajedrez en Rishon no solo es asunto de clubes y medallas. Durante muchos años, el ajedrez ha sido uno de los temas más importantes y populares en el sistema educativo municipal.
El programa "Un viaje al Mundo del Ajedrez", dirigido por Luba y Boris Alterman, se está aplicando en 40 jardines
de infancia y recibe muchos elogios por parte de los alumnos, sus padres y maestros. Al saber que funciona tan bien, el Departamento de Educación Municipal de Rishon Lezion ha incluido el ajedrez también en 18 escuelas primarias.

En el programa de aprendizaje los alumnos aprenden a trabajar con el ordenador con programas
informáticos interesantes y también jugando partidas de verdad. Muchos estudios han comprobado los beneficios que tiene el aprender a jugar al ajedrez, especialmente para los jóvenes.
El director municipal de Educación Dr. Shosh Nahum comentó: "El programa de ajedrez se lleva a cabo en coordinación con los planes del alcalde de Rishon Lezion para la educación. El ajedrez contribuye de manera importante al mejor desarrollo de la
confianza en uno mismo y del sentido competitivo de los niños; aprenden a
asumir responsabilidades y sirve para mejorar también sus habilidades sociales y mentales".
El director de educación básica Miri Or-Gottfried agregó: "Vemos la gran importancia que tiene el aprendizaje del ajedrez en las escuelas primarias. A pesar de pasárselo bien y estar jugando, los niños
