A Nakamura le salió bastante mal esa misma apertura y Topalov rápidamente tomó el timón, pero no logró ampliar su ventaja y la partida terminó en tablas tras 37 movimientos. Hubo empates también en las partidas Van Wely - Gelfand, y Gashimov - Navara. Durante el final de su partida contra Giri, Ivanchuk tomó el mando y triunfó. Por último, Kamsky y Radjabov firmaron tablas en una Española. En el grupo B el líder logró otro tiunfo mientras que su más cercano perseguidor Motylev únicamente logró tablas contra Cmilyte. El LXXIVTorneo Tata Steel se celebra entre el 14 y el 30 de enero de 2011, en Wijk aan Zee (Holanda) Consta de tres pruebas principales. Se juegan por el sistema de liga en el tradicional De Moriaan Center de Wijk aan Zee. Los tres grupos de grandes maestros tienen 14 jugadores. Todas las rondas comienzan a las 13:30 horas, excepto la última del 29 de enero, que comenzará a las 12:30 horas. Los días de descanso son: 18, 23 y 26 de enero. Ritmo de juego: el control de tiempo es de 100 minutos para 40 movimientos, seguidos por 50 minutos para 20 movimientos y luego 15 minutos para las jugadas restantes con 30 segundos de incremento por cada jugada desde la primera.
