22/03/2004 – Shirov hizo encajar un 2 - 0 a Gelfand (el segundo que sufre) y Vallejo logró salvar medio punto ante Van Wely a la ciega. Los resultados de la segunda ronda estuvieron más igualados. Las partidas a la ciega no estuvieron exentas de fallos de memoria, como el de Anand frente a Topalov, que no lograba acordarse de dónde tenía el alfil.
