24/09/2004 – El inglés Luke McShane ha repetido triunfo en el torneo suizo Young Masters, en el que se dan cita los nombres más relevantes del panorama actual sub 21. En la final derrotó al azerbayano Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. Muchos ojos observaban al participante más joven, el noruego de 13 años Magnus Carlsen. Perdió en el desempate de la primera ronda contra Alekseev, lo que lo relegó a la segunda mitad de la tabla. Pero luego ganó sus encuentros contra Severin Papa y Kateryna Lahno para terminar quinto.
