Es Licenciado en Filosofía por la Universidad de Buenos Aires, con una tesis sobre la semejanza entre el pensamiento de Spinoza y Nietzsche. Publicó Paralelas en Ramo, La metamorfosis argentina, una reflexión sobre la sociedad y la política de los años 90, y Les Exilés du dialogue, un diálogo con el sociólogo y filósofo francés Jean Baudrillard, traducido y publicado a varios idiomas. Fue colaborador en el Cahier de L´ Herne dedicado a Jean Baudrillard. Ha sido, a su vez, colaborador en diversos libros de ensayo colectivo, como Ensayos y Debates, el Diccionario de pensadores contemporáneos, y Reinventar la Argentina.
Ha sido profesor universitario. Fue becario de la Fundación Eisenhower en los EE. UU. y miembro del Directorio del Instituto Cultural Argentino Norteamericano (ICANA). Ha sido Presidente del Grupo de Fundaciones y Empresas, institución que promueve la inversión social en la Argentina; consejero de la Fundación Compromiso; líder de la Fundación AVINA; miembro del Consejo Presidencial Argentina 2030 y del Consejo Académico del Observatorio de la Deuda Social de la UCA. Ha sido presidente de Cippec (Centro de Implementación de políticas públicas para la equidad y el crecimiento).
En 2010 fue distinguido por el Gobierno de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires con la medalla del Bicentenario. Actualmente es Presidente de la Fundación Navarro Viola y colaborador del diario La Nación.
