El escenario
Vocaturo mostró buena preparación contra Jobava y alcanzó una ligera ventaja tras la apertura. Cuando el joven italiano cometió un error con 14.Ce4 (en lugar del recomendado 14.0-0-0 por Emil Sutovsky), Jobava se alzó con la iniciativay a partir de ahí fue el protagoniasta de la partida. Vocaturo comentó: "Cuando estás analizando con ellos realmente sientes la fuerza de juego que tienen. A decir verdad, es otro nivel el de ellos. Pero es una experiencia bonita para mi".
La partida fue aplazada hasta el sábado, 19 de julio

"Nunca había analizado las líneas de esta apertura. Simplemente jugué la posición y así hasta el final", comentó Jobava.

"Todo salió mal. Me comí un peón por pura desesperación y realmente tenía una posición inferior. Además también subestimé algunas oportunidades porque la pareja de alfiles es realmente fuerte", comentó Brunello.
El saque de honor de la quinta ronda corrió a cargo del jugador de tenis Carlos Bernardes, que vive en Bérgamo y visitó el torneo, nada más haber regresado de Wimbledon.
Bernardes se ha visto las caras sobre la cancha de tenis con tenistas como Nadal y Federer. El brasileño realizó el movimiento inaugural en el tablero de Sabino Brunello y Daniele Vocaturo.
